How to Fix Nssutil3 Dll Errors on Windows 7? July 22nd, 2010

admin

The “Nssutil3.dll” file is used by Mozilla Firefox for its “Network Security Services” feature, and is a main component of the Firefox browser. Unfortunately, this file is continually causing errors which prevents Firefox from loading. The most common errors for this file to produce is “Application Failed To Load: Nssutil3.dll Was Not Located And Failed To Start. Reinstalling The Application May Resolve This Error”. Here’s how to fix this problem…

What Causes The Nssutil3.dll Error?

The Nssutil3.dll error is caused primarily by the “BullGuard” and “BitDefender” antivirus / firewalls mistakenly blocking the Nssutil3.dll file on your PC. However there are also other causes of this issue, which include the likes of having a virus infection and registry errors on your PC. Here’s how to fix the problem:

How To Fix The Nssutil3.dll Error?

1) You should start by updating the virus definitions inside your protection package and then reinstalling Firefox. Most antivirus vendors have now updated their programs to not label nssutil3.dll as a trojan or any other form of virus. However, if this does not work, you should then create an exception for the Firefox application and nssutil3.dll in your PC.

2) If doing step 1 does not work, you should then look at manually replacing the file on your system. To do this, you should first download a new version of the file from the Internet and then place it in your Mozilla Firefox installation folder. Then you should register the file with Windows (by using regsvr32 command) and see if that solves the issue.

3) You may also want to clean out the ‘registry’ of your system to make sure that’s not causing any problems. The registry is a big database which stores a large number of information and settings for your PC, including the likes of your desktop themes and wallpaper. The registry is more crucially home to a list of DLL files that your computer uses to help programs run… and this list is often damaged, causing many errors like what you are seeing. You should try using a ‘registry cleaner’ to fix the errors that are in your registry, which could actually make Windows run much more reliably.
